The Wisdom of a Child

Each week as we have been introducing a new Positive Discipline Tool Card, I have been taping the cards to the refrigerator.

A couple days ago my son was having a bit of a meltdown about something. I was doing my usual thing of trying to talk him out of his feelings. Then my daughter walked over and tapped me on the shoulder. Without saying a word she pointed to the "Validate Feelings" tool card on the refrigerator. That was exactly the reminder I needed. I stopped trying to talk Gibson out of his feelings and that seemed to diffuse the situation. Then Emma asked Gibson if he would like a hug. :-)

Sometimes it takes the wisdom of a child to give us perspective. That is why I am so glad that I have been involving my children in the process. We are learning and growing together.

Wow - that is SO fantastic!

I usually put the card of the week on our whiteboard but I think I may put each week's card up too.

I'm so happy you're sharing your experiences.

Hi Karen,

It really is amazing how my kids have embraced this process. I have to admit that I have been pleasantly surprised. :-)

That's very powerful. Thanks for sharing :-) I'm inspired to also post our cards - sounds like a great topic for family meeting tonight.
