RAW COURAGE

I first met Shelley Abegg over 20 years ago when she was establishing her hair stylist business. Shelley had turned cutting and styling hair into an art form. She had a loyal base of clients who were willing to travel and pay any price for her services. Through the years we lost contact with each other, but recently we have reconnected. That was when I became familiar with her story of courage, dedication and strength!

You can read the story for yourself on her website www.rawfoodart.com. Shelley had been diagnosed with breast cancer and rather than go with the traditional treatments of chemotherapy...Shelley decided to treat her cancer through alternative methods, specifically switching to a diet of raw food. The power of food and how it can positively or negatively affect our health is fascinating. The scientific world seems to be slowly but surely catching up with what nature has known all along. That a diet rich in raw fruits, vegetables, nuts and grains can improve health and prevent disease.

I won't pretend to be an expert in the field of nutrition. Nor would I ever be so bold as to recommend any particular alternative treatments for disease. But what I can say without reservation is that my friend Shelley is an amazing and courageous woman. It's hard to say how each of us would react to the challenges we sometimes face in this life. Often it is not until we actually go through a trial that we realize the capabilties of the human spirit!
Seeing this kind of courage first hand has been a rare gift in my life! And I wrote the following song to honor that gift...

She Does

Some people they follow the crowd
Some people are much too proud
Some people they don’t really care
Some people are so unaware

But I know someone she follows her heart
Even when her whole world is falling apart
She had the strength to face the unknown
Some people have the courage to stand alone

And she does…facing her fears
And she does…through all the tears

Some people would not get through
Some people wouldn’t know what to do
But I know someone she knows the way
She travels her own path every day

And she does…facing her fears
And she does…through all the tears
And she does…she’ll make it you’ll see
And she does…she holds the key

And she does…

It would be nice to hear you sing this. Couldn't you do that and create a link? Mom
